Mii-dera Temple
Category: Unique Venues
Mii-dera Temple is the head temple of the Tendai Jimon sect of Buddhism, which has continued for more than 1,000 years, and is well known for its cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall.
The temple grounds are lined with many national treasures and important cultural properties, including the Kondo Hall, a ""Niomon"" deva gate, the bell tower which houses the ""Evening Bell of Mii"" (which is one of the ""Eight Scenic Views of Omi""), and Benkei's Bell.
Conferences, exhibitions, and parties with food and drink can be held in the Kangakuin Kyakuden, designated as a National Treasure that preserves early Shoin-style architecture, and the Koujo-in Kyakuden, a National Treasure decorated with partition paintings of the Kano School. The Kannon-do Hall, which overlooks Lake Biwa, can also be used for a variety of purposes, including exhibitions, receptions, and recitals.
A Zen meditation class including the recital of a Buddhist monk's chants is also available as an excursion option.
